Purpose & Values Development

Purpose and values (translated into measurable behaviours) represent the 'crucible' that holds collaborative endeavour. When we know why we are doing what we are doing, and we agree on how we behave together (the minimum standards), then there is a framework within which we can work towards our shared future. Strategy is the translation of this framework, i.e.  what we agree will help progressively deliver on our purpose.

Research has shown that organisations with an unwavering sense of purpose, underpinned by a core set of values are among not only the most profitable but also the most enduring.

Dattner Grant is committed to helping people within organisations develop a strong and meaningful sense of purpose, and to define the core values that will help them achieve it.

Too often, it seems that organisational purpose and values are developed by the most senior leaders, without input or buy-in from the rest of the workforce, and/or they are not adequately supported and role-modelled by those at the top. In these cases, the purpose is forgotten in the day to day, and the values remain meaningless buzzwords.

This can happen because many leaders do not themselves truly understand the place and power of purpose and values in an organisation, and therefore do not adequately invest in or prioritise their commitment to achieving alignment to these. They work over rather than with people, missing the significant opportunity to create genuine organisational momentum.

Dattner Grant is committed to effectively supporting the design, development and roll-out of purpose and values in organisations and to providing the education and training people need in order to empower them to undertake a journey that, managed well, will be a key success factor for the collaborative effort that best delivers results now and into the future.

Dattner Grant's Alignment Audit is an excellent tool for development of organisational values. It allows leaders' perceptions to be tested and the realitites of what is truly valued within an organisation to emerge.
